The 145.290 machine is located on top of 50 stories in uptown Charlotte. The antenna is at the 1,333 foot level (ASL), which is
about 583 feet AGL. The Johnson CR1100 puts out about 100 watts ERP into a Diamond tri-band vertical, which is painted
Carolina blue to blend with the uptown sky. The 145.90, along with the 224.400 and 444.600 repeaters, is controlled by the same
Link Communications RLC-3 controller which makes any of these repeaters linkable to the others. Like the 145.230 repeater (see Number 19),
the features, messages and control functions can be programmed from a computer at home, linked via modem to the controller at the top
of Charlotte. The controller also has the optional Digital Voice Recorder for "real human" messages and still includes an open autopatch
from any of the three repeaters. The 145.290 machine is ofte linked to the 444.600 for use in many Charlotte public service events. It's
also the emergency powered backup repeater for Mecklenburg ARES events and nets.
